Sleep and emotion regulation in humans: A brain imaging approach

We study the role of sleep and chronobiological factors in the regulation of emotion and in the consolidation of emotional memory, using functional brain imaging methods (functional MRI/EEG) and pharmacological manipulations.

We also investigate the link between sleep and emotion regulation in patients with depression and obsessive-compulsive disorders. The student will have the opportunity to get familiar with methods (experimental designs, data acquisition, and data analysis) developed for the study of human brain functions using state-of-the-art neuroimaging technologies.

The exact content of the ongoing projects will be determined on the avilability of collaborators.

  • Duration of participation in the project can be flexible.
    Number of places avaialbe: 1 per semester.

Prerequisites

  • High level undergraduate student.
  • Minimum GPA 3.4
  • Basic knowledge in experimental psychology and/or brain imaging methods.

We use neuroimaging methods (fMRI, high-density EEG, etc.) to study brain functions in healthy volunteers and patients with neurological or psychiatric disorders. Our imaging platform is fully dedicated to the study of the human brain and includes a 3T MRI scanner, several high-density EEG devices, one sleep lab, etc.
